Sabrina M. DeVos
Celiac Strong Camp Founder, 2014 Celiac Strong Camp Inc. President Program Director |
The founder of Celiac Strong is Sabrina DeVos, from upstate NY, specifically the Rochester area. She is currently enrolled in a master's program for Arts Administration in Florida, and earned a BS in Music Education in 2019 at Roberts Wesleyan College. Sabrina was officially diagnosed with celiac disease in 2003, at the age of six while in first grade.
She started this camp in 2014, at the age of 16, for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project and received the award in 2014. When Sabrina was in kindergarten, in 2002, she joined Girl Scouts for the first time with her mother as the troop leader; now she is a lifetime Girl Scout member. Her first summer camp experience was in 2006 at Camp Celiac, located in Rhode Island, which is about eight hours away from Rochester, NY. She attended the camp every year until 2014, at the age of 16, when she aged out. Sabrina loved the experience so much that she wanted to share it closer to home for children in this area. She believes other children should experience the joy of having a few of worry free days and to created a place where they can just be kids.
